People escape east Macon house fire

Macon-Bibb County firefighters are responding to a house fire in the 2600 block of Ellsworth Terrace in east Macon.

The blaze began about 1:10 p.m. and appears to have started in a bedroom, said Fire Capt. Tom Musselwhite.

He said a mattress was involved. The fire remains under investigation.

Multiple people were inside the home when the fire began. They escaped without injury, authorities said.

Musselwhite said it was difficult to survey the home, 2658 Ellsworth Terrace, because of the heat trapped inside.

"It's so hot in there, you can't hardly stand it," he said.
