A Crawford County public official under investigation for irregularities with the county budget is dead from an apparent gunshot wound, law enforcement officials said.
Candy Jones, the county manager in Crawford County, was found dead this afternoon in her Taylor County home, Taylor County Sheriff Jeff Watson said. Watson said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been called in to investigate.
Watson said he didn't think it was a homicide.
Jones, along with two of her assistants, was suspended with pay this week after officials found financial irregularities with the budget.
