A D.A.R.E. officer for the Macon Police Department was seriously injured in an accident on Mercer University Drive shortly before 8 a.m.
Toya Coleman was driving east across the Interstate 75 bridge in her department-issued Ford Taurus when a Ford pickup pulled out from the exit ramp, said Sgt. Rick Wolverton of the Macon Police Department.
Coleman was on her way to an appearance at the Gaudet All-Star Baseball Camp when the accident happened, said Lt. Eric Walker who works with her in the Youth and Intervention department.
The driver of the pickup, which had Houston County plates, was given oxygen at the scene and was placed on a stretcher and loaded into the back of the ambulance with Coleman.
