A truck carrying about 7,800 gallons of diesel fuel overturned on Ga. 247 today, causing traffic to be diverted for a couple of hours while spilled fuel was cleaned up.
Macon-Bibb Fire Chief Marvin Riggins said the cause of the accident was unknown, but likely occurred when the driver lost control while turning from Broadway onto Ga. 247 north. The trailer of the truck was overturned on its side at the intersection, while the cab of the truck eventually stopped about 100 yards up the road.
The driver of the truck, Johnny Madry, bruised his hand but was otherwise OK. No other vehicles or people were involved in the accident, which happened at about 11:40 a.m. The truck belonged to Tyner Trucking Co.
Cars were being diverted at Guy Paine Road while the cleanup was taking place. Traffic returned to normal early in the afternoon, fire officials said.
