The state insurance commissioner has nearly doubled his initial storm damage estimate, putting insured losses at $100 million now.
Earlier this week the estimate was $50 million — and rising — in insured losses. Broader estimates, taking into account uninsured losses, are still being developed by local, state and federal authorities.
Insurance Commissioner John Oxendine plans to tour storm damaged areas Thursday. His office has put up signs in affected neighborhoods, reminding residents they can call his office if they have insurance questions or problems.
The numbers are (404) 656-2070 and (800) 656-2298.
