With many people without power in northern Twiggs County, the Twiggs County Sheriff's Office and the Emergency Management Agency are opening up water distribution sites at two local fire stations.
Beginning at 12:30 p.m., residents can bring containers to the fire stations on Balls Church Road on Ga. 18 and Missile Base Road.
The fire stations will be distributing water until 7 p.m. and will continue each day from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. until the power is restored, which could be later this week, Sheriff Darren Mitchum said.
Because most of rural Twiggs County uses well water without electricity, they can't pump into their homes. The county took a direct hit from one of the tornadoes that passed through Bibb County. Several homes and churches sustained heavy damage and automobiles were destroyed by falling trees.
