A collision between a pulpwood truck and a minivan at the intersection of Ga. 96 and Old Hawkinsville Road this afternoon closed the state highway, knocked out electrical power in the immediate area and sent both drivers to the hospital.
Lt. M.J. Stokes of the Houston County Sheriff's Office said the crash, which occurred shortly after 2 p.m., occurred when the westbound pulpwood truck apparently ran the red light and slammed into the minivan, which was heading south on Old Hawkinsville Road.
The woman driving the van was transported to Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, but the three children in the van did not appear to be injured, the officer said. The truck driver was also taken to the hospital after complaining of neck injuries.
The truck overturned in the intersection, blocking the road, witnesses said.

The power was not expected to be restored to all of the affected homes until the broken poles can be replaced, a spokesperson said.
