Construction on a major road-widening project in Houston County began today.
Work crews began the clearing process for the widening 3.4 miles of Ga. 127 from south of Perry Parkway to Bear Branch Road, according to a release from the Georgia Department of Transportation.
The $17.8 million project also includes construction of a bridge over Mossy Creek. The state is paying for most of the cost of the project, with $907,000 coming from local funds.
Motorists are urged to use "extreme caution" in the work zone, the release stated. Speed limits have been reduced and will be "strictly enforced," according to the release.
