Storms knock out power, cause flooding in midstate

Strong winds and rain knocked out power, closed a road and toppled power lines as storms rolled through Middle Georgia this afternoon.

About 1,500 Tri-County EMC members are without power, mostly in northern Jones County near U.S. 129 and southern Putnam County near Ga. 212 and Twin Bridges due to high winds, according to a Tri-County EMC news release.

In Macon the stretch of Broadway between Raines Avenue and Antioch Road was closed just before 5 p.m. due to flooding, according to Macon-Bibb County Fire dispatchers.

It's not clear when the road will reopen.

Power lines were reported down on Atwood Drive in west central Macon.
