Parts of Middle Georgia are getting pounded this morning by heavy rain and severe thunderstorms.
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Bibb, Jones and Monroe counties. The warning will remain in effect until 10 a.m.
The weather service earlier had issued a severe thunderstorm watch for much of Middle Georgia. Counties in the affected area include Baldwin, Bibb, Bleckley, Butts, Crawford, Crisp, Dodge, Dooly, Houston, Jasper, Jones, Laurens, Lamar, Monroe, Montgomery, Peach, Pulaski, Putnam, Taylor, Telfair, Twiggs, Upson, Wheeler and Wilcox.
The weather service reports that the band of storms has the potential to produce pea-sized hail, frequent lightning, heavy downpours and wind gusts up to 45 mph.
