Downed tree, wreck lead to traffic problems on I-75, I-475

Weather is causing traffic problems on both Interstates 75 and 475.

An accident with a tractor trailer has closed all lanes of traffic between the I-75 rest stop and Interstate 475 south at mile marker 177 in Monroe County.

An operator at the Georgia State Patrol post in Forsyth said the truck was wrapped around the pillars of a bridge and authorities had to close the lanes to remove the wreckage.

The Georgia Department of Transportation's Web site states the accident is expected to be cleared by 1:45 p.m.

Meanwhile, a tree has blocked one southbound lanes on Interstate 75 between exit 169 at Riverside Drive and exit 171 at Arkwright Road.

The lane is expected to be cleared by 1 p.m.

Bibb County Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. George Meadows recommended motorists avoid the area by exiting onto Riverside Drive.

Seventeen Georgia counties, including Bibb County, are under a tornado watch until 2 p.m.
