Smoke from an underground transformer filled the Market City Cafe this morning at about 8:30 at the corner of Third and Cherry streets in downtown Macon.
Macon-Bibb County firefighters said there is no actual fire inside the restaurant, but the smoke from the power supply is filtering into the downstairs portion of the restaurant.
A few customers continued to eat breakfast as firefighters inspected the basement.
Plumes of light gray smoke are flowing up out through grates in the side walk and smoke is pouring out of a power box on a utility pole outside the restaurant in the 500 block of Cherry Street.

Georgia Power crews on the scene say the underground systems are maintained by crews from Atlanta and they were awaiting service.
Initially no power outtage was reported on the street, but it is unclear whether there will be a disruption in electricity while repairs are made.
