Worker killed by falling pipes this morning in Macon

A 21-year-old Dry Branch man died shortly after 8 a.m. when 600 pounds of pipe fell on top of him.

Joshua Scarbary was tightening the strap around a load of PVC pipe on a tractor trailer when the strap apparently broke sending the long PVC pipe crashing down, said Bibb County coroner Leon Jones.

Scarbary was trying to secure the load at Pond Piping Systems at 393 Eighth St. in the industrial sector near downtown Macon when the accident happened, Jones said.

When Jones arrived, Scarbary's body was lying on the pavement next to the truck, several pipes and the bar used to tighten the strap.

Macon police roped off the truck and surrounding area while crime lab technicians gathered evidence on the scene as a precaution, Jones said.

From all appearances, Scarbary died of trauma to the head in what Jones believes was an accident, he said.
