Two arrested in Moultrie home invasion in which woman was killed

MOULTRIE, Ga. — Two men have been arrested in a home invasion robbery in which a woman was killed and her husband wounded.

Craig Gandy, 20, and James McCloud, age unavailable, have been charged with murder, armed robbery, burglary, aggravated assault and using a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Karen Marie Moore, 46, was shot and killed Tuesday morning when masked men armed with a gun and a bat came into the couple’s home, authorities said. Her husband, James Moore, 51, was brought to Colquitt Regional Medical Center for treatment for at least four gunshot wounds.

Moultrie Police investigator Sgt. Alfonzo Cook said two men entered the house around 3:30 a.m. and demanded money from the Moores, who had recently returned home from the Boggy Bayou Mullet Festival in Niceville, Fla. The Moores were cooks at carnivals.

The Moores gave the two suspects $10,000. But when Karen Moore stated she knew who the robbers were and could identify them, one suspect opened fire, Cook said.

Colquitt County Coroner Daniel Warburg said Karen Moore was shot multiple times with a .45-caliber pistol while she was in the bed. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gandy and McCloud were arrested later in the day.

Cook said the two suspects were employees of the Moores and knew they would have cash on hand at the time of the robbery.
