MOULTRIE — A south Georgia woman was killed and her husband wounded Tuesday morning when masked men armed with a gun and a bat invaded their home.
Karen Marie Moore, 46, of Moultrie was shot and killed, authorities said. Her husband James Moore, 51, was undergoing treatment at Colquitt Regional Medical Center for at least four gunshot wounds. His condition was stable as of 9 a.m.
Moultrie Police Investigator Sgt. Alfonzo Cook said two men entered the house about 3:30 a.m. and demanded money from the Moores, who had recently returned home from the Boggy Bayou Mullet Festival in Niceville, Fla. The Moores were cooks at carnivals.
The Moores gave the two suspects money. Cook said that when Karen stated she knew who the robbers were and could identify them, one suspect carrying a firearm opened fire.

Cook said the two suspects were employees of the Moores and knew the Moores would have cash on hand at the time of the robbery.
James Moore called 911 from his cell phone following the incident, Cook said.
The two suspects, whose identities are known to police, remained at large Tuesday morning.
