Woman being held hostage in Milledgeville standoff

Police have been in a standoff for more than nine hours with a man who they say is holding a woman hostage at a Milledgeville apartment complex.

Police arrived at Pine Knolls apartments after receiving a call at 11:41 p.m. Monday that shots had been fired in the area, said David McNeely, communications supervisor for the police department. When police arrived, they found a man who had been shot, he said.

The man, who is not being identified, was sent to Oconee Regional Medical Center and is in stable condition, McNeely said.

Police have established communication with the suspect, who has barricaded himself and a woman inside an apartment, he said.

The Georgia State Patrol SWAT team has been called in to work the case, he said.

Troy Flury, radio operator for Georgia State Patrol, confirmed officers are on the scene but said he didn't have any additional information.
