Macon-Bibb firefighters responded to two small brushfires along Interstate 475 this afternoon.
District chief J.R. Malcom said the fires were within two acres of each other, but he said he didn't know what the cause was.
"It could have been a cigarette butt," he said. "As dry as it is, with the wind as it is, it doesn't take a long time for something like that to spread."
The fire was reported at about 2 p.m. and Malcom said it was under control within 30 minutes. The fire was both along the road and in the woods near the The Cupola on Peake Road in Bibb County. No property was damaged and no injuries were reported, officials said.

Malcom said he was going to call in the Georgia Forestry Commission to inspect the wooded area.
