Alabama to visit University Center

Emory. Savannah State. Albany State. Lipscomb. Reinhardt.

The first five teams of that list have been the past five home-opening games for the Mercer men's basketball team.

The final team is the next home-opening opponent.

The Crimson Tide will come to the University Center in November as the first home game of the season for Mercer. It will be the first visit to Macon by an SEC team since Dec. 3, 1994, when Georgia topped Mercer 81-71 at the Macon Coliseum.

An Alabama visit - highlighting one of Mercer's strongest non-conference schedules in years - has been in the works for a few seasons, but the timing fits because Alabama will have former Wilkinson County star Senario Hillman, the reigning All-Middle Georgia Player of the Year.

The electrifying guard signed with Alabama last fall and only added to his reputation by keying the Warriors' dominating run to the GHSA Class A state championship.

"When they signed Senario Hillman," Mercer head coach Mark Slonaker said, "I thought that would be a natural tie."
