First candidates qualify for Macon city elections

The first round of candidates in the Macon city elections has filed paperwork, officially kicking off election season.

Mayoral candidate Thelma Dillard, Rabbi Larry Schlesinger, former Councilman Lonnie Miley and current Councilman Alveno Ross were all on hand at 8:30 this morning — or shortly thereafter — to sign qualifying paperwork.

Schlesinger is running citywide for the Ward III Post 1 seat, Miley is running for the Ward 1 Post 2 seat and Ross is seeking re-election to his Ward III Post 2 seat.

All these candidates are Democrats, and they filed with local party officials Monday. Republicans are qualifying this week, too, but are meeting their party officials by appointment.
