Dog dies after being set on fire in Macon

Police officers are searching for the person who set a dog on fire this afternoon.

Macon Police Sgt. Melanie Hofmann said a woman on Cliffview Drive saw flames in her front yard after hearing her dogs barking.

She said the woman called 911 and tried to get a water hose to start extinguishing the flames until firefighters arrived.

After the fire was out, Hofmann said firefighters discovered a charred mixed breed dog with a chain around its neck.

The dog was barely alive and died soon after the flames were extinguished, she said.

As of 4:30 p.m. Hofmann said officers were still interviewing neighbors.

Anyone with information about the crime is asked to call Macon Regional Crimestoppers at 742-2330 or (877) 68-CRIME.
