Father of former Atlanta Braves pitcher Rocker dies in WR wreck

WARNER ROBINS — The father of former Atlanta Braves pitcher John Rockerdied this morning in a two-vehicle wreck, police said.

Jake Rocker, 63, of Macon, died from injuries sustained in the crash,Warner Robins police Maj. John Wagner said.

Wagner confirmed that the victim was the father of Rocker.

According to Wagner, here's what happened:

A 2006 GMC Envoy was eastbound on the Ga. 247 Connector, also known asWatson Boulevard, when he attempted to make a left turn onto Gunn Road atabout 7:30 a.m.

At the same time, a 2005 Peterbilt 379 dump truck was traveling west onWatson Boulevard.

"The driver of the SUV drove into the path of the dump truck and wasstruck," Wagner said.

Angelo Raffield Jr., 40, the driver of the dump truck, was not believed tohave been hurt, Wagner said. The truck was owned by J&K Trucking of Forsyth,he said.

The truck was inspected by a Georgia Department of Transportation on siteand no citations were issued by the public safety department or WarnerRobins police.

The accident resulted in traffic congestion at rush hour.

One west bound lane and a portion of Gunn Road was closed until 11:15 a.m.

The two east bound lanes remained open.
