Church’s Chicken in Macon reopens after health score issues. What fixes were made?
Church’s Chicken in west Macon has reopened and improved after officials requested the restaurant close due to poor compliance with health standards, according to the Macon-Bibb County Health Department.
The fast food restaurant at 5394 Thomaston Road off Mercer University Drive closed within a day after a health inspector found issues with raw chicken, grease and cleanliness, according to an inspection report on Oct. 20.
The restaurant’s health score improved from 74 to 98 out of 100 when inspector Nelson Morales Rodriguez returned Oct. 24.
“Based on the repairs and adjustments facility is able to reopen,” Rodriguez said in the report.
It didn’t receive a perfect 100 out of 100 because a freezer still had ice buildup, and ice on the floor “has not been cleaned completely,” Rodriguez said. A door also still had “tears and broken threshold.”
He discussed with the owner having the ice cleaned and door repaired, but the restaurant was in “good condition” otherwise, according to the report.
