SAVING CENTSABLY: Tax day freebies abound

It’s tax day! There are so many people still working to get their taxes filed, printed and to the post office today. Hopefully, there also are many of you who have already taken care of all that business and can enjoy some tax-day freebies today.

Several businesses are offering incentives and free offers today in an effort to drive business on this otherwise typically unpleasant day. If you are in the market for free food today, load up the family and visit a few different locations -- like a progressive dinner, so to speak.

Today at all Arby’s locations, guests can receive a free snack-sized order of curly fries. There is a coupon, printable from their Facebook page or Arbys.com, which some locations may require. Often, though, you can call your Arby’s location and find that the freebie is available to all customers whether they have the coupon or not.

Sonic Drive-In restaurants often have special-day offers, and April 15 is no different. Today, you should find that Sonic has half-price drinks all day. Taco Bell and Subway also often participate in the tax day fun -- check with your stores to see if they have special offers you may be interested in.

The Great American Cookie Company has, in the past, offered a free chocolate chip cookie to all customers with no requirement for a coupon. Check with your local store to see if they are repeating the offer for tax day this year.

Boston Market has offered their customers freebies and special offers for the last five years. In the past, offers have included $1.99 rotisserie chickens for each family, buy-one-get-one-free dinner plate offers and more.

Did completing your taxes prove to you that you have too many stacks of paper laying around? Do you need to shred and dispose of your many-years-ago bank statements and other documents?

You can use a tax day freebie from Office Depot (or Office Max) to do so. While they have limited the shredding amount to only 5 pounds per person, I feel sure any tax filers in your family could print the online coupon and “donate” 5 pounds of papers and documents to be shredded and disposed of at your local office supply store.

This morning, be sure to check savings blogger websites such at www.hip2save.com, www.iheartsavingmoney.com or www.southernsavers.com. There will be complete (and possibly lengthy) lists of freebies or special offers you can receive today.

Just don’t forget to get your taxes filed and to the post office before you go hunting for all the goodies available today!
