Cocoa bread pudding

4 cups milk (or 2 cups evaporated milk plus 2 cups water)

2 tablespoons butter

4 cups bread cubes made from stale bread

2 eggs

3/4 cup sugar

1/3 cup cocoa

1/2 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla

Makes 12 servings.

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Heat milk with butter until butter is melted. Pour over bread cubes; stir well and set aside.

Beat eggs slightly; add sugar, cocoa, salt and vanilla, and beat until well mixed. Stir into bread mixture and pour into buttered 9-by-13-inch baking dish. Bake 45 minutes. Serve hot or cold.
