Spiced nuts

1 egg white

3/4 cup sugar

1 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon nutmeg

2 cups whole walnuts or pecans

Makes about 16 servings.

Heat oven to 275 degrees. Grease a cookie sheet.

Beat egg white with 1 teaspoon water until stiff. Combine sugar, salt and spices in a second bowl.

Pour nuts into egg white, toss to coat, then pour into spice mixture and toss again. Spread on prepared pan, separating nuts as much as possible. Bake 30 minutes. Cool, separating nuts again if necessary, and store up to a month in airtight container.
