7-minute Nicaraguan crema de leche
Gilda and Goya are two brands of Maria cookies, available in Latin markets and some supermarkets.
1 (14-ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
1 stick (1/2 cup) butter

20 Maria cookies, finely crushed
Makes about 8 dozen pieces.
Heat and stir milk and butter in a skillet over medium heat. When well mixed, add cookie crumbs. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is golden brown and pulls away from pan, about 7 minutes. Pour onto wax paper. When cool enough to handle, roll into bite-size balls. (Or pat into a rectangle and cut into small squares.) Place in individual bonbon cups if desired.
