One day after a gunman robbed the Shoe Show on Pio Nono Avenue on Thursday, another robbery was apparently thwarted.
About 5:45 p.m. Friday, Macon police officers responded to a call from the store about a suspicious man in the store, according to a news release issued late Saturday night. When officers told the man to remove his hands from his pockets, a gun fell out of one of the pockets, the release stated. The man in the store, and another man waiting in a car, were taken into custody.
Greg Oneal Johnson, 23, and Jerome Cliett, 29, were arrested with criminal attempt to commit armed robbery. Cliett also had a Superior Court violation.
About the same time of day Thursday, a man came into the Shoe Show and tried on a pair of shoes. He then went to the cash register, showed a gun, pushed a customer out of the way and demanded money, according to a police report.
The employee gave money to the gunman, who then ran away, the report stated. The gunman is described at a black man with gold teeth and a beard.
