Chili dogs

4 tablespoons olive oil

1 onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 teaspoons sugar

5 tablespoons chili powder

1 teaspoon cumin

2 pounds ground beef

1 small can tomato paste

2 cups beef broth

6 tablespoons masa harina

2 teaspoons salt

1 package hot dogs, cooked, kept warm

1 package hot dog buns

2 cups shredded cheddar cheese

Makes 8 servings.

Heat oil and saute onion until tender. Add garlic, sugar, chili powder and cumin. Cook 2 minutes longer.

Add beef and cook until completely browned. Stir in tomato paste, broth, masa harina and salt. Simmer over very low heat until thick, about 30 minutes.

Serve over hot dogs on buns and top with grated cheese.
