CW Debuts Two Shows

The CW gets the jump on its rivals tonight with the return of "Vampire Diaries" at 8 p.m. and "La Femme Nikita" at 9 p.m.

The former is back after a much-buzzed about first season, with the series not getting lost in the heavy vampire shuffle these days in the movies and on TV.

The latter has actually gotten some decent buzz, with Maggie Q taking over the Nikita role, which has also been played by the likes of Anne Parillaud, Bridgit Fonda and Peta Wilson on the big screen and small. Nikita is a woman forcibly recruited into being an assassin. This time around, she turns on her former bosses and tries to rescue other people from the program.

Maggie Q has both the looks and the martial arts skills to make this series possibly interesting, so I'll at least check out the first coupled.

THURSDAY'S BEST BETS: "Rookie Blue" (ABC, 9 p.m.) wraps up its first season tonight with back-to-back new episodes.

Also, a rematch of last year's NFC title game between New Orleans and Minnesota kicks off the NFL season (NBC, 8:30 p.m.)
