TV Gears Back Up

The networks aren't wasting a whole lot of time getting back into the swing of things, kicking off new episodes this Sunday.

And next week is full of new stuff. I've seen the first two episodes of "Scrubs" and the first three of "Damages," and I'll have reviews next week. (I've also seen the first two episodes of "Lost." Two words: Frakkin' Awesome!)

Hope everyone had a safe and happy new year.

WEEKEND'S BEST BETS: My father would be disappointed if I didn't mention that Alabama faces utah tonight in the Sugar Bowl (Fox, 8 p.m.), so there you go. My guess is that dad won't be watching the new episode of "Lipstick Jungle" (NBC, 9 p.m.) that will be on opposite it.

Sci Fi is airing the penultimate episodes of "Stargate Atlantis" at 9 p.m. -- in this case, the next-to-last episode of the series -- and "Sanctuary" at 10 p.m., the first part of a two-part season finale.

On Saturday, the Atlanta Falcons return to the playoffs as their unlikely season continues when they face the Arizona Cardinals in the first round of the playoffs (NBC, 4:30 p.m.) Despite what the oddsmakers say, this game is very winnable for the Falcons.

On Sunday, NBC airs its newest attempt at so-called reality with "Superstars of Dance" (NBC, 9 p.m.), in which dancers from all over the world compete showing off their native dance moves. Michael Flatley is the host.

CBS has all-new episodes of "Cold Case" and "The Unit" at 9 p.m. and 10 p.m., respectively, while ABC counters with new episodes of "Desperate Housewives" and "Brothers & Sisters."

Finally, "Masterpiece" presents the classic Thomas Hardy story, "Tess of the D'Urbervilles" (PBS, 9 p.m.)
