Mea Culpa.

I wrote at the beginning of the week that the Emmy finalists would be announced today, but it will be next Thursday.

It's the L.A.-area Emmys that were announced today, and while I believe we can get into a spirited discussion about whom the best news anchor in Los Angeles is, I think that's a discussion for another day. (Though it looks like KTTV has the news special category sewn up.)

So I guess you'll just have to allow your excitement to percolate for another week.

THURSDAY'S BEST BETS: CBS decides to foist an 11th edition of "Big Brother" on us tonight at 8 p.m. I'm still deciding whether I want to watch grass grow or paint dry, since either will be more interesting.

ABC continues to burn off new episodes of "Samantha Who?" with new ones at 8 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., while "The Listener" (NBC, 10 p.m.) is also new.

"Supernatural" (CW, 9 p.m.) is a repeat, of course, but it's the one where Sam and Dean go to a town where everyone's wishes come true. Man, this show's reruns are better than half the new stuff on TV during the summer.

Those reruns aren't better, however, than "Burn Notice" (USA, 9 p.m.) and "Royal Pains" (USA, 10 p.m.), both of which are back with new episodes after a week's hiatus.

Finally, if you enjoyed the infomercials by the late Billy Mays, Discovery hosts a special tribute to the bearded one tonight at 9 p.m. on a new "Pitchmen."
