As downtown Milledgeville welcomes more and more restaurants and stores, it's very easy to miss those establishments that aren't flashy.
And Puebla's Mexican Restaurant on Hancock Street, in the heart of the busiest area, is one of those places. With a small sign outside advertising its existence, Puebla's is easy to overlook.
That would explain the fairly slow crowd flow on both visits to Puebla's. A good thing, because it did mean prompt service.
Upon arrival to Puebla's, a full menu and chips and salsa are set in front of you. The salsa is full of flavor, as are pretty much all of the sauces at Puebla's. The salsa was a good consistency - not too runny, not too chunky - and was nice and spicy. It made just sitting and eating chips and salsa an imaginable meal.

Of course, with the selection, it was hard not to order one of the various combinations of tacos, burritos and enchiladas. Also on the menu was a number of different salads, quesadillas and fajitas.
As simple as it sounds, Puebla's has mastered the art of taco making - starting with the hard-shell, which was crispy and had a fresh, almost buttery aftertaste. The meat was flavored and not anywhere close to being dry. (Note - get extra napkins!)
The tacos can be ordered by themselves or as a combination with a burrito or enchilada. My recommendation, try them by themselves with a side of rice and beans. It's plenty of a meal.
Another appetizing dish was the steak fajitas which my dining partner couldn't stop picking at even long after he was full. The steak was, like the taco meat, not at all dry and had a spicy kick to it.
The burritos were large and filled from end to end with mixings. The sauce they were drizzled in was excellent - so much so, I would suggest asking for a extra helping because there didn't seem to be enough to go with the dish.
The enchiladas and quesadillas were equally as appetizing, although the tacos and fajitas still win out. One downside to the offerings was that most dishes are not offered with rice and beans, or any other side item, which means you have to order it by itself. This can make the meal get quite pricey, and a bit overpriced depending on what you order.
Still, while strolling around downtown Milledgeville, it's not a bad place to slip into and enjoy a quick bite to eat.
