Hoppy Hour Yoga was planned as a one-time event but was so successful the owners of Hometown Yoga are hosting it again on Monday, and they plan to continue on after that.
The free one-hour yoga class kicks off at 6:30 p.m. at Rosa Parks Square downtown and is accompanied by music from DJ Kevin Nichols.
“People think of yoga as slow and laid back, but ours is much quicker moving. Kevin puts together awesome playlists of all pop music. You really have to come see the flow of it,” said Hometown Yoga co-owner Rachel Gerrity.
More than 100 people showed up for the first two classes, one of which had to be moved to the Armory Ballroom because of rain.
“We wanted to show people that yoga is available to everyone and can be beneficial to everyone,” Gerrity said. “We knew we could have an impact but were limited in the studio, and we have just had massive turnout.”
After the class, participants walk over to Just Tap’d to get beer, “hang out and connect as a community,” she said.
Participants are asked to bring their own yoga mats, and children are welcome for the class.
