Georgia Tech baseball head coach Danny Hall announced that former Tattnall Square standout DeAndre Smelter will forgo his final season of baseball to focus on football.
Smelter signed with Georgia Tech's baseball program out of high school but has been limited by injuries. He joined the Yellow Jackets’ football team last summer as a wide receiver and caught 21 passes for 345 yards and four touchdowns. Smelter has one year of football eligibility remaining.
“I know this was a difficult decision for DeAndre but one that he feels is best for his future,” Hall said in a release. “I’ve got a tremendous amount of respect for what DeAndre has done both athletically and academically here at Georgia Tech and I wish him and his family nothing but the best. He’ll have no bigger fan than me on the football field.”
