Lamar County head football coach Franklin Stephens has accepted the same position at Ware County, the Barnesville Gazette reported Thursday.
Stephens went 26-2-1 in two seasons as the Trojans’ head coach. He led Lamar County to its first state championship game in December. The Trojans lost 14-7 to Lovett at the Georgia Dome. The Trojans lost in the state semifinals in 2012.
Stephens is 90-8-1 as a head coach. He won two state championships at Tucker and previously served as a defensive coordinator on championship teams at Camden County.
Stephens replaces Ed Dudley, who resigned to take the head coaching job at Carrollton. The Gators have won 10 games or more in each of the past four seasons. They lost to Gainesville in the state championship game in 2012.
