Rutland sprinter Tyler Ragin signed with Texas-El Paso on Friday.
Ragin, who specializes in the 100 and 200 meters and the triple jump, will become the fourth Division I track signee from Bibb County in the past two years.
Ragin finished fourth in the triple jump at the Class AAAA state meet this past May. She qualified for the 100-meter finals and competed on the Hurricanes’ third-place 4x100 relay team.
Ragin finished sixth in the Class AAA 100 and 200 meters as a junior. She also finished sixth in the 100 and 200 meters as a sophomore.
Never miss a local story.
She was named the State Youth of the Year by the Boys and Girls Club in March 2013, earning $5,000 in scholarship money from the honor.
Ragin follows former teammate Adriunna Brown, Howard’s Anasterasia Terrell and FPD’s Grace Tinkey in signing a track scholarship.
Brown signed with Louisiana-Monroe, Terrell signed with Clemson and Tinkey signed with Air Force but ended up at Furman.
