The GHSA reclassification committee was scheduled to meet on Tuesday, Dec. 17 to consider appeals for lateral transfers.
That committee will still meet Tuesday, but the agenda has changed. The 12-member committee will meet to discuss region reclassification for Class AAAAA.
There was some controversy at the region reclassification meeting on Dec. 3 that included the creation of a 17-school region in metro Atlanta. At one point during the meeting, the committee discussed isolating six Augusta-area schools down to Class AAAA, which GHSA executive director Ralph Swearngin said defeated the intent of the isolation rule because those six schools were nearby. Several south Georgia AAAAA schools were unhappy because Camden County was isolated down in all sports by football.
The committee will likely re-structure the regions in AAAAA, a source said Monday.
The lateral transfer appeals will now be heard on Jan. 7.
