The Northside Eagles moved to No. 1 in Class AAAAA in the Georgia Sportswriters Association Prep Football Poll, which was released Tuesday.
The Eagles jumped to the top spot following Gainesville’s loss to Class AAA’s top team Buford. The Eagles beat Veterans 34-0 this past Friday. They earned 12 of the 17 first-place votes. Tucker received four first-place votes and finished nine points back of the Eagles. Stephenson garnered the other first-place vote and landed at No. 3. Warner Robins remained at No. 8 in Class AAAAA, but the Demons face a test Friday from Peach County.
Northside returns to action Thursday, when it plays Westside – ranked No. 8 in Class AAAA – at 7 p.m. at McConnell-Talbert Stadium.
The Seminoles were the lone Middle Georgia team ranked in Class AAAA, although Mary Persons finished four points out the 10th spot. Sandy Creek was the unanimous pick in Class AAAA.

Peach County fell four spots to No. 8 following its loss at Baldwin on Friday. Washington County was a beneficiary, jumping up a spot to No. 5. The Trojans could gain back some ground with a win over Warner Robins this week.
Lamar County remained No. 3 in Class AA, while Vidalia jumped up a spot to No. 6 following Brooks County’s loss to Valdosta. Calhoun is still ranked No. 1 in AA.
The Class A poll was sent into disarray as four of the top five teams lost – seven of the top 10 either lost or tied. The only Middle Georgia team left standing was Wilcox County, which is No. 10 following a loss to Monroe. Eagle’s Landing Christian remained No. 1, but Landmark Christian jumped from No. 6 to No. 2 and Savannah Christian leapt from No. 9 to No. 3 following a win over Prince Avenue Christian. Aquinas went from unranked to No. 5 after beating George Walton.
North Gwinnett remained in the top spot in Class AAAAAA.
