The GHSA state traditional wrestling tournament kicked off Thursday at the Macon Coliseum.
Nine Middle Georgians won their opening match to advance to the quarterfinals.
Jones County had a wrestler in the lightest and heaviest classes move. Tim Randolph (106 pounds) and Jackson Williamson (heavyweight) both won by pins on Thursday in Class AAAAA.
In Class AAAA, Howard's undefeated 170-pound wrestler Keiondre Wedderburn won via pin, as did Crisp County's Charleston McKenzie (heavyweight) and Dillan Richter (182 pounds) and West Laurens' Gerald Carr (152). West Laurens' Evyn Insalaco won by major decision at 106 pounds, and his teammate Bryce Carr won by technical fall at 160 pounds. Kameron Jackson, of West Laurens, won by a 1-0 decision at 195 pounds.
Middle Georgia wrestlers in Class AAA, Class AA and Class A will be in action Friday, along with those from Class AAAAA and Class AAAA.
