Alfonzo Dennard, Wilcox County: Had 60 tackles, five interceptions and three forced fumbles as a senior. He also had 780 receiving yards and 14 touchdowns and had three kick return touchdowns. Named a consensus all-state pick as a senior. Led the team to the state championship game. Had 60 tackles and six interceptions as a junior. Scored 12 receiving touchdowns with 840 yards as a junior to go along with six rushing touchdowns. Currently a starting cornerback at Nebraska.
Josh Gordy, Washington County: Consensus all-state pick as a senior when he intercepted six passes. Four of the interceptions came in the playoffs. He returned two picks for touchdowns, including a 101-yard touchdown at the Georgia Dome in the state semifinals. Four-year starter at Central Michigan and probable NFL Draft pick in 2010.
Maurice Gray, Warner Robins: Consensus all-state pick as a senior. Intercepted five passes as a senior, returning three for touchdowns. Led the team with 11 pass breakups. Also returned three punts for touchdowns. Lock-down corner. Second on the team as a junior with five interceptions, and he helped lead the Demons to a state championship in 2004. Had 91 tackles over his junior and senior seasons. Currently, a senior at Oklahoma State.
Carson Hill, Baldwin: The cornerback was an all-state and All-Middle Georgia pick as a senior after racking up 85 tackles and four interceptions. He led the Braves to their only appearance in the Georgia Dome with a 10-4 season in 2005. Hill has had a successful career as a starting cornerback at Georgia Southern.
Roger King, Peach County: King intercepted four passes as a senior. Had 41 tackles and two interceptions as a junior. Dangerous kick returner as well. Named first-team all-state by the AJC and GACA as a senior. Signed with Georgia Southern.
Jarvis Kyles, Baldwin: Made 60 tackles and five interceptions as a senior. Returned three picks for touchdowns. Had 90 tackles, 14 pass deflections and four interceptions as a junior. Picked off four passes as a sophomore. Played at Mississippi State.
K.J. Morton, Northside: Named two-time all-region pick, and a two-time All-Middle Georgia selection. Named to the all-state team as a junior after breaking up 10 passes and intercepting seven passes. Morton was an honorable mention all-state pick with 51 tackles and five interceptions. Helped Northside win back-to-back state championships. Signed with Georgia State.
Quintez Smith, Dublin: Smith was the named the Telegraph's All-Middle Georgia Player of the Year in 2002. Named the AP Class AA Defensive Player of the Year in 2002 after leading the Irish to the state championship game. He intercepted 10 passes as a senior. Named to the all-conference team as a junior at Chattanooga. Recently named a Division II All-American at Shaw (N.C.) after tying the D-II record by returning four interceptions for touchdowns.
Rashard Smith, Dublin: Smith had back-to-back 10-interception seasons as a junior and a senior. He was named the AP Class AA Defensive Player of the Year as a junior and a senior, making him the only player in Middle Georgia to achieve state player of the year honors in consecutive seasons. Oddly enough, the coaches named him the AA Offensive Player of the Year. Started as a cornerback on the Irish's 2006 state championship team as a sophomore. Currently a freshman at N.C. State.
Derek Tharpe, Warner Robins: Named a consensus all-state pick as a senior in 2000 after intercepting 10 passes. He holds the school record with 25 career interceptions. Played in the GACA All-Star Game. Played at Wake Forest.
