Grovetown at Northside
The former Region 2-5A opponents square off. Northside is 5-0 against Grovetown, winning by 21, 35, 40 and 42 in four straight meetings, up to last season.
Veterans at Starr’s Mill
The hosts are 6-4 and winners of three straight, but the 5-5 Warhawks had a week off to get healthy and straighten out the problems from the Warner Robins loss. A workable draw for Veterans.
Jones County at Wayne County
The Greyhounds are 6-4, the Yellow Jackets are 3-7, the wins over teams with a combined 4-25-1 record. Looking ahead in the playoffs, however, can end a season.
North Clayton at Mary Persons
Former Georgia defensive back Cap Burnett has former Georgia quarterback D.J. Shockley’s alma mater in the playoffs for the first time since 2011.
Luella at West Laurens
The Raiders more than took care of business against Perry in breaking a two-game losing streak. A quality defense hosts a team that has been shut out four times, three times by quality teams.
Westside at Pierce County
The Seminoles face a high-scoring Pierce County team that averages 43.5 points per game. The Bears lost 56-46 to Liberty County last Friday in a heads-up matchup for the Region 2-3A title.
Brooks County at Southwest
Maurice Freeman, who went 17-24 in four seasons as head coach at Southwest from 1998-2001, takes on his former team for the first time. Brooks County’s only losses this season have come to Crisp County, Fitzgerald and Thomasville.
Berrien at Washington County
The Rebels will have a brutal drive from just east of exit 41 on Interstate 75 to the House of Pain to face a Washington County team that lost a region game at home, and that doesn’t happen very often. The Golden Hawks won’t be happy.
Dodge County at Thomasville
The third-seeded Indians have a favorable matchup with the 5-4 Bulldogs. Both won four of their final five, but Thomasville is off a loss to Fitzgerald while Dodge County had Friday off.
Dublin at Fitzgerald
There aren’t many 1-4 matchups with ranked teams squaring off, but here is one. Jaycee Stadium will be rocking, especially with a momentum-filled Dublin, off a win at Washington County, making the trip.
Stratford, FPD vs. TBA
Stratford appears headed toward a first-round home game, while FPD likely will open on the road. The Class 1A public and private brackets will be released Monday afternoon.
Deerfield-Windsor at Gatewood
Gatewood beat Heritage 33-14 to reach the GISA Class 3A semifinals, where the Gators will face a Deerfield-Windsor team that beat them 48-7 in last year’s quarterfinals.
Valwood at John Milledge
John Milledge reached 12 wins for the second time in program history with its 42-14 GISA Class 3A quarterfinal victory over Pinewood Christian. The Trojans and Valwood have met twice in the playoffs since 2012, with Valwood winning a 2012 semifinal 27-24 and John Milledge prevailing 35-34 in a 2014 quarterfinal.
