HOOVER, Ala. - The first three days of SEC media days have been rather uneventful, with no fireworks and little star power. There's a chance, however, that the final day will provide a strong finish.
The best team, at least judging by early preseason polls, is appearing in the form of Alabama.
The best player, arguably, will be making the rounds, in the form of Georgia tailback Todd Gurley.
And the preseason all-SEC list and media predictions will be released early on Thursday morning.
Never miss a local story.
Georgia and Ole Miss will make the rounds in the morning at the Hyatt Regency. Georgia is also bringing receiver Chris Conley, well-known for his off-field accomplishments, and inside linebacker Ramik Wilson, a consensus first-team all-SEC pick last year.
The choice of Gurley, a junior, was a bit notable given his reticence to do media interviews during his first two seasons in Athens. But it was not surprising for those who know UGA's Claude Felton, the longtime sports information director.
Felton has said he believes that part of his role, and that of the football program in general, is to prepare players for the next level, particularly those like Gurley with an obvious chance to play in the NFL. That includes media responsibilities, so Felton and his staff have been working with Gurley.
"Claude told me to be nicer to you guys," Gurley said at one point last season.
Felton also said he feels an obligation to bring your best players. And since Gurley is clearly that for Georgia, and perhaps the entire conference, he will be front and center on Thursday.
