ATHENS - Damon Evans, the man ousted three years ago as Georgia's athletics director, could end up having a role in deciding whether the Bulldogs football team plays in the national title game.
Evans is one of 105 voters in this year's Harris Poll, which is one of the two polls used by the BCS rankings. The other is the USA Today coaches poll. The Harris poll has been in existence since 2005, after the Associated Press requested it no longer be used by the BCS.
This is the final year of the BCS, with a selection committee next season determining the four-team playoff.
Evans now works at IMG College, which assists colleges in fundraising. Evans, 43, and his wife live in Winston-Salem, N.C. He was fired as Georgia's athletics director in June of 2010 after a DUI arrest in Atlanta, and the notorious details that emerged in the incident report.
This year's list of Harris voters includes former coaches and players, media members and other random individuals.
Other notable voters include:
- Former Kentucky head coach Rich Brooks.
- Former Clemson head coach Tommy Bowden.
- Former Michigan head coach Lloyd Carr.
- Former Mississippi State head coach Jackie Sherrill.
- NFL.com analyst Gil Brandt.
- Former South Carolina athletics director Mike McGee.
- Former Central Florida athletics director Keith Tribble, who is under an NCAA show-cause penalty after penalties at UCF.
