We're still a little more than a month away from the season, and the anticipation builds daily as Georgia prepares for what should be a strong season:
Aug. 31 at Clemson: Yes, I'm a Clemson graduate, and my wife is a Georgia graduate, so this should be a fun week in the Shirley household. It should also be a terrific football game with two strong teams. What a great way to kick off the season with the nation’s marquee game of the opening week right here in the Southeast. ... Clemson 35, Georgia 30.
Sept. 7 South Carolina: The Bulldogs' season really begins with their most important game. They have lost three straight to the Gamecocks but really need this one to get their season going in the right direction. ... Georgia 28, South Carolina 24.
Sept. 21 North Texas: A little break for the Bulldogs during the toughest opening month of the season in the nation. ... Georgia 42, North Texas 3.
Never miss a local story.
Sept. 28 LSU: With the win over South Carolina under their belts, the Bulldogs add another huge win and get off to what looks like a strong start to another division title. ... Georgia 24, LSU 10.
Oct. 5 at Tennessee: The Volunteers should be improved in the first year of head coach Butch Jones' tenure. Just not that improved. ... Georgia 49, Tennessee 20.
Oct. 12 Missouri: Unlike the Volunteers, the Tigers probably won't be much improved. ... Georgia 42, Missouri 7.
Oct. 19 at Vanderbilt: The Commodores had some of the big-program problems this offseason, but they're not quite ready for a big-program game like this. ... Georgia 35, Vanderbilt 17.
Nov. 2 vs. Florida in Jacksonville, Fla.: Mark Richt has been criticized harshly for years for not beating the Gators. But that should stop after a third straight win in this rivalry game. ... Georgia 27, Florida 13.
Nov. 9 Appalachian State: The Bulldogs get a second break in the schedule before entering the stretch run. ... Georgia 56, Appalachian State 7.
Nov. 16 at Auburn: Like the Volunteers, the Tigers should be improved with a first-year head coach (Gus Malzahn). But not that improved. ... Georgia 45, Auburn 14.
Nov. 23 Kentucky: Another first-year head coach and another big win. ... Georgia 48, Kentucky 10.
Nov. 30 at Georgia Tech: The Bulldogs have owned this rivalry for years, and that won't change this season. ... Georgia 35, Georgia Tech 24.
