Chattanooga took advantage of Mercer’s struggles from long distance and at the free-throw line to take a 74-61 win Thursday over the visiting Bears in Southern Conference men’s basketball.
Mercer connected on only 52.2 percent of its free throws and 31.2 percent of its 3-point tries, while Chattanooga countered with 73.1 and 40.9 percent.
The Bears fell to 15-13 overall and 10-5 in conference play while the Mocs improved to 18-9 and 11-3. The Bears visit Samford on Saturday.
T.J. Hallice led Mercer with 13 points, while Jibri Bryan added 12, Darius Moten 11 and Phillip Leonard 10.

Ronrico White led four Mocs in double figures with 17 points.
The Bears were within a possession with 5:44 left in the game, but Greg Pryor hit a 3-pointer to double the Chattanooga lead. The margin stayed at six or better until 1:33 remained when Mercer got within five, but that was it.
