Five days after its most disappointing loss of the season, Stetson will go for major redemption when it hosts A-Sun co-leader Mercer on Saturday afternoon.
The Hatters lost 75-59 to Mercer on Jan. 4 and then won two straight before starting a four-game slide.
The exclamation point came Monday, when Stetson was surprised 75-45 by Savannah State, the Hatters scoring only 13 points in the first half.
But their focus should be drastically improved with the chance to break that streak against one of the top teams in the conference. The 3:15 p.m. tipoff will air on 96.5-FM.
Stetson is 7-13 overall and 4-5 in conference play, tied with North Florida for seventh. Mercer is 15-7 and 7-2, knotted in first with Belmont.
USC Upstate is alone in third at 6-3 (12-9 overall), with East Tennessee State, Florida Gulf Coast and Lipscomb all at 5-4.
Mercer got some attention in the CollegeInsider.com mid-major poll with five points, tying Coastal Carolina for 39th. Belmont is 18th.
The Bears visit Florida Gulf Coast on Monday and return home to host USC Upstate on Feb. 4.
Mercer’s women carry an 11-game losing streak into Stetson for the first part of Saturday’s doubleheader (1 p.m., 1670-AM).
The Bears are in sole possession of last place in the A-Sun at 1-9, 3-18 overall, a game behind Lipscomb.
Stetson is 17-5 overall and 8-2 in the conference, solidly in second place. The Hatters are 23rd in the women’s mid-major poll.
The Bears host East Tennessee State on Thursday.
