The North Macon 11-12-year-old All-Stars used a record-setting performance to win the Dixie Youth state tournament in Augusta and earned the trip to the Dixie Youth World Series that goes along with it.
North Macon defeated Mill Creek National 12-2 on Friday in the state championship game.
North Macon moves on to the World Series, starting July 30 in Lexington, S.C.
North Macon broke several state tournament records, including runs scored, strikeouts and stolen bases as it went undefeated in the tournament.
“It feels great to know we played so well and get to represent the state of Georgia,” North Macon head coach Roy Hattaway said. “We feel great about going, and we’re excited.
“One of the state directors who has been to the World Series four or five times said he feels like we have a good shot at doing some things over there.”
North Macon broke Columbia County’s stranglehold on the state title to advance. Columbia County had won the tournament the past five years.
