Six Georgia inmates are credited with saving the life of a correctional officer who passed out during a work detail.
When the officer passed out Monday while providing security on the job site, the inmates responded by grabbing his work phone and calling 911, according to a Facebook post by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. They then removed his outer carrier vest to help him cool off while they waited for EMS to arrive, reported WXIA.
To thank them, the officer’s family provided lunch and dessert for the inmates.
“As we watched the horrific man hunt this week of the two inmates that killed two Correctional Officers and were captured last night we all know that Monday could have ended differently for our Officer,” wrote the sheriff’s office, referring to the capture of the two escaped inmates Ricky Dubose and Donnie Rowe. “We are very proud of the actions of all 6 inmates involved.”
