In the commission District 6 race, Macon City Council veteran Ed DeFore defeated former city finance director Adah Roberts.
DeFore, who has served on city council for 42 years, attended his scheduled council meeting Tuesday afternoon and made a quick stop at home before heading to the board of elections in the evening. The final tally gave him a 3,065 to 1,941 win.
Among his plans is to use some of the special purpose local option sales tax revenue that the consolidated government will have for recreation centers in District 6.
“I want to build two field houses out there where senior citizens can get in them and play checkers, sew and crochet, and the kids can be out of the rain,” he said.
Never miss a local story.
DeFore addressed his opponent, saying it was “an honor to run against somebody like Adah Roberts, a very fine lady.”
Roberts, who said running a positive campaign was important to her, returned the kind words.
“Mr. DeFore is going to be our representative,” she said. “We will have to call on him and let him know what we want and make sure he represents us well. I wish him the best.”
Though DeFore had previously said this was his last election, health permitting, he said he will consider running again in three years.
