WARNER ROBINS -- Motorists along Moody Road soon should start to see it tidied up a little better.
The Houston County Commission voted Tuesday to pay for an additional inmate work crew for the newest section of the Moody widening project -- from just south of Ga. 96 to Ga. 127.
The contract approved Tuesday runs from March 1 to June 30, which is the remainder of the fiscal year. A new contract will be sought for the full year starting July 1. The full year of the contract with McEver Probation Detention Center is $39,500.
McEver is a minimum security state corrections facility in Perry that mostly houses probation violators, said Commission Chairman Tommy Stalnaker. The facility provides eight other inmate crews that maintain county roads.
Never miss a local story.
Stalnaker said motorists along Moody should start to see a difference, especially in the summer when grass is growing.
